Feature Requests

Please add your Feature Requests and Suggestions for the PhotoSmash Galleries WordPress plugin in the comments below!  Check the list first, if your item isn’t there drop a comment and I’ll get it added.

Feature Requests & Suggestions

  • Add height and width settings for the Thickbox form
  • Add an option to link images to their WP Media Attachment page.
  • Fix the blank box for new galleries.  Hide it or something so that it’s not just sitting there.
  • Star ratings for images
  • Comments for individual images – do this through attachment pages or individual posts
  • Multiple image uploads - available through Media Library upload/import into PhotoSmash galleries (0.4.01)
  • Use ThickBox for displaying images…since it’s already being loaded for upload forms (0.4.02)
  • Dashboard Widget  to show thumbs of contributor uploads
  • Emails to Contributors listing approved/disapproved images and why (0.4.02)
  • Caption option – link to Contributor profile if no URL is supplied
  • Planned PhotoSmash Extend feature – option to create a new post for each uploaded image.  Will provide ability to create Post templates that let you select which field is used for the Post Title, as well as have ability to insert fields and text (even PhotoSmash layouts and galleries) into the post.  Images can be added to the single gallery and displayed in post as individual images, or can be added to new galleries that are specific to the posts they created.
  • Planned PhotoSmash Extend feature (currently in development) – ability to create sets of Insert blocks that can be inserted into a gallery when it is displayed.  For instance, if you want to display 3 Google ads, beginning with the 5th image, and then space the other 2 ads every 4 images, this feature would let you specify those parameters, and add one or more code blocks to insert.  You could specify 1 code block and it would get used all three times…2 code blocks would go 1 – 2 – 1 (looping fashion)…3 code blocks would go 1 – 2 – 3.  You can also specify which layouts a particular Insert Set should be used with if you’re using custom layouts.  Insert Sets can be set at the gallery level.
  • Document shortcodes!
  • Hover effect on thumbs to allow choosing between a link to the image or a link to the post. – can already do through custom layouts
  • Localization.
  • Add categories and tagging.
  • Option to disallow/notify user if uploaded image is too small
  • TinyMCE button for inserting a gallery
  • Allow auto-add by category
  • Random images widget
  • Highest rated widget
  • Most recent widget
  • Dashboard widget for moderating images
  • Pagination in Admin/Photo Manager
  • Change pagination to show a limited (5) number of page links
  • Shortcode for a page that lists galleries with image links to their pages
  • Vote up/down
  • Edit custom fields in Admin
  • Display Gallery Name

Do you have a feature built in to show custom fields in the photogallery admin tool? right now it shows submitter, caption, date etc. but I would like to show the other 3 I added to the form.

  • Tony says:

Is there anyway to enable anonymous uploading?

  • Tim says:

Hello. I am looking for a way to show a “Share URL” link underneath each photo in the gallery. This would be an outstanding feature. I need this badly actually for my site.

  • Karl says:

We have the plug-in implemented but it shows a large blank space at the beginning of the page before you get to the pictures and we cannot figure out why this is.

    Thanks.

    Karl

  • Tom Trentham says:

    Thanks for great plugin.

I was wondering if it’s possible to use ratings on custom layouts?

    Cheers,

    Tom

    • byron says:

      Tom,

Try [ps_rating] as your field. You may have to play with the css to get it like you want, and using the Beneath Caption position may give you better control…even though the position you set on the gallery won’t be used, it does affect the javascript and css a little bit.

I haven’t tested much with custom layouts, so let me know how it goes.

        Byron,

Thanks for the advice. It didn’t work initially, but needed a value adding to the getStandardFields() function (bwbps-layout.php, line 46):

        , ‘ps_rating’

Maybe you could add this to the next release so we can upgrade (again ;) )

If you’re interested in how we’re using your plugin, the work-in-progress is http://www.bath.ac.uk/inpictures/

          Tom,

That looks great! Are you using CoolIris with PhotoSmash? CoolIris integration is on my list. Was it hard to do? Any pointers you might share on that would be greatly appreciated!

And…thanks for working out the ps_rating item on the standard fields. I’ll add to next release!

          Cheers,
          Byron

    A user scenario:

To exemplify the use of the plugin… If you wanted to make a website for say a Photo Society, it would be nice if it was possible for each user to upload photos to his/her own album, make a post for each photo (or batch of photos) so others could comment on the picture(s) or set a star rating, and have photos from all of the different albums aggregate to a joint album on the front page… the joint album could be a “logical” one, the photos doesn’t necessary have to be there physically.

Could this be achieved today or in the future? Either by logical albums, or by posting images to several albums at once?

  • K says:

    I really love your plugin!

Would be really cool if it’s possible to sort images by rating.

  • Minz says:

Hi! too many requests! You think you can handle it? :)

  • Malcev says:

    One more thing.
Is it possible to add watermark to photos
After pushing “submit” button to add photo it will be great to
    1) write or rewrite caption
    2) do not upload this photo at all (for example if it is not right photo)
    Thanks!

  • Malcev says:

    Hi!
    Thanks for plugin.
One trouble – When Default thumb style is Resize & Maintain Aspect – when I refresh gallery on web page – thumbnails jumps from one place to another when loads.
Is it possible to repair it?
And one more thing is it possible to add option to place thumbnails like this
    http://muz-tv.ru/gallary/12/

    Thanks a lot!!!

    Thanks for this Plugin :)
    I’ve a feature Request.
A button in tinymce would be great to insert a Gallery (instead of write [photosmash]) like PRO Player Plugin.

  • SKunder says:

Automatic notification if a photo being uploaded is SMALLER then what is specified in the gallery settings.

  • Minz says:

hi, i didn’t find this.. How about ‘category’ option? That way photos can be categorized.

    • byron says:

      Minz,

There is an option in the Custom Forms that will give you a dropdown field of the categories. All it gives you is a single category id field, so it’s really only useful if you’re creating a new post.

I need to come up with a more complete solution. Adding to the list…Thanks!
      Byron

  • Flo says:

    hi,
can you please localize the plugin, I can offer you to make and maintain the german translation.

I mean on the one side the backend, but more important the frontnd, like all the text in the upload form.

    • byron says:

      Hi Flo,
Thanks for the offer! This needs to happen. There are options in PhotoSmash Settings and Gallery Settings that handle most of the text in the upload form, but it’s not an ideal solution.

      On the list.
      Byron

  • Tor says:

Would be nice if it were possible to make a post of every image added to a gallery… then it would be easy to add star ratings, comments etc… is this possible now, or planned in the future?

Would be happy to beta test.

    • byron says:

      Tor,

This is actually a feature that I’ve implemented for several folks in doing customizations for them. While doing those jobs, I have tweaked PhotoSmash to allow for doing this in a fairly easy manner, but you have to write your own script at this point. In PhotoSmash Settings / Advanced, you can specify a custom Ajax Upload Script that will be called during the upload process, where you can take control of everything that occurs.

That said, I am planning to release a new product in the next month or so that will have this feature, among others, built into it. The product is called PhotoSmash Extend, and it will be available to “Club” members. I haven’t worked out the pricing or details around membership yet, but I’m working on it.

PhotoSmash Extend will not become the de facto plugin for new features, but where it makes sense features will be added there. I’m hoping that PhotoSmash Extend will appeal to 10% or so of PhotoSmash users, and that for that percentage, they will find that the nominal fee for membership is a no-brainer.

I’ve added a bullet with some more details of what I have planned for this feature to the list above.

      Cheers,
      Byron

      • Tor says:

Just want to point out something I think could be useful if you plan to have images appear both in a gallery and a post… The demo at http://themeforest.net/item/exehill/full_screen_preview/47407 will, when you select “Gallery”, show you a nice hoover effect where you can select to either open the image at full size or open the post the image belong to…

      • Tor says:

One more thing… would it be possible to combine PhotoSmash with other gallery solutions by using shortcodes to images? I am currently using Nextgen gallery at one site, and Slideshowpro (and SSPD Connector, http://rdp-photo.net/) at another… what they got in common is the ability to select images the “normal way”, and they insert shortcodes to the images in the post… eg. [sspdc content=322] and [singlepic id=211]. The reason for this wish is of course the added functionality: Nextgen gallery gives you among other things watermarking and the ability to batch resize images… and Slideshowpro gives you a very nice slideshow :-)

Would it be possible to get PhotoSmash to work with this kind of shortcodes?

        • byron says:

          Tor,

That shortcode is already there…I don’t know if I’ve documented it or not. Try:

          [psmash id=##]

There are a number of attributes that can be used with it as well, particularly field and layout for displaying custom field info or using a custom layout…I need to get that documented.

          Byron

          • Tor says:

What I meant to ask were if it is possible to use PhotoSmash together with eg. Nextgen gallery… :-) But I guess it should be possible, if you already use a similar notation?

  • SKunder says:

    • Link to Contributor profile if no URL supplied (I use the “Caption [by] Contributor (link to website)” option).

  • SKunder says:

    • Contributors Dashboard have thumbnails of their uploaded images.
    • Daily email to Contributors listing approval/disapproval of uploaded images and why

  • Jane Walton says:

    multiple images, of course.
