  1. i have spend alot of time looking at different Photo gallery's, and this is exactly what i have been looking for!

there are two features i would like to implement, if possible.

I have my website set up so anyone can upload pictures (and i have moderation enabled.)

The requests i have gotten are as follows:

    1. the ability to upload multiple pictures with out having to log into wordpress.

    2. The ability to let users create their own galleries.

Thanks again for this awesome plugin!

  2. Hi Thrill,

    Glad you like PhotoSmash!

    1) Unfortunately, this is a pretty major undertaking, though it has been requested a number of times. I want to get a few other things done first...including the iPhone app ;-)

    2) The next version of PhotoSmash will aid you in this...see the change log and look for: Post-Author Uploads as a Gallery type....here's the changelog link: http://smashly.net/photosmash-galleries/change-log/

    Cheers,
    Byron

  3. Thrill,

I should also mention that if you need those galleries to show up in a separate post, the PhotoSmash Extend add-on allows for creating new posts on upload.

    Cheers,
    Byron

  4. Thank-you for the quick reply!

I will keep my eye out for the next version.

As for the uploader question. With wordpress 3, the built in uploader now allows for multiple files. I dont know how much of a pain it would be to integrate that into your plugin, but it may be easier then starting from scratch :)

  5. Hi Thrill,

I don't know if you could use the WP Uploader on the front end, particularly since it's intended as an Admin tool. That article talks about using the uploader in the Admin.

The good news if you're looking for this in the Admin side is that PhotoSmash is already integrated with the Uploader on the Admin side. You can do that in Photo Manager (click Add Images once you're viewing a gallery) and in the media uploader Add New or in the write/edit Posts and Pages. The media uploader will give you a dropdown list of all your PhotoSmash galleries. If you select a gallery and then upload a bunch of images, they will be added to whatever gallery you selected.

The trouble on the front end is that I think the Media Uploader is looking for people with certain rights. Not sure if it would work for subscribers.

If you figure something out. Let me know...there are a ton of people who'd like that.

    Cheers,
    Byron

  6. I spent a good chunk of this morning trying to find somthing.

    here is what i found.

Tdo mini forms (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tdo-mini-forms/), would do what we need, but the setup is way to complicated for the standard user, so i wouldn't mention it.

I have found other plugins that allow posting from the frontage, but i could not find a way to just have the upload part only. (nice thing is it does use wordpress's uploader and i can see the options to choose the gallery! (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/quick-post-widget/)

I see in your plug-in you use jquery. you may be able to modify this plugin for your needs
    (http://www.uploadify.com/)

if i find something easy to use i will let you know!

  7. Thanks! I'll take a look.

  8. Hi Byron....I found photosmash quiet intresting...But I want to display the photos added in the photosmash only for the registered users after their login....can you help me to do this....

  9. Hi Devine,

You might try using a page or post that only logged in users can view. Here's a popular plug that gives you that ability: http://justintadlock.com/archives/2009/09/17/members-wordpress-plugin

  10. Hey Byron,

I see that it is possible to use the Uploadify upload method with NextGen: http://wpmu.org/how-to-add-a-smooth-jquery-public-file-uploader-to-wordpress/

However I'd much rather use it for the PhotoSmash front-end upload method, as I have auto-add gallery for each post. Do you have any clues on how to replace the default uploader with this one?

    Thanks!

  11. Hi Zum,

I haven't looked at Uploadify, sorry. I am, however, planning to build a bridge that will let you use Gravity Forms for upload. But that's down the road.

I'm a bit swamped at the moment, so it might be a bit before I can check out uploadify.
