  1. Hi there

Watching your video tutorials I have learned that for viewers to be able to upload a picture to the site they have to log in. My question is how?

Is there a plugin you recommend that would satisfy this? Also, how can I know that the user will only be able to add a picture to the gallery and not mess with the blog?

I am not very tech savvy as you can see. I have already installed the plugin though and have to finish setting it up. I want to make it as easy as possible for the viewers to be able to upload the pics.

    Thanks!

    Federico

  2. Hi Federico,

If you want it so your users have to login to upload images (this uses the standard WordPress Login and Registration), you will need to go to Gallery Settings, Edit your gallery, go to the Uploading tab, and set the Minimum Role to Upload to "Subscribers".

If you want it so anyone can upload without being logged in, just set the Minimum Role to Upload to "Anybody" in the same place as above.

    Hope that helps,
    Byron

  3. Hi Byron

Many thanks for your help- it did the trick. I now have 3 additional questions, I hope you can help me out with them.

    1) Does the website have to be published for the Add Photo button to work? I am still creating the site and have not published it (wordpress) and the button leads to a 404 error

    2) The gallery has 2 while lines, one at the top and another at the bottom, as if creating a margin. Is there any way I can get rid of them?

    3) I currently have a gallery (let's call it B) on a page, but I would like to have another gallery (let's call it A) which would include the latest 6 or 8 photos of gallery B and have A on my home page. Is there any way such a gallery (A) can be created so that it grabs these 6 photos automatically?

    Many thanks,
    Federico

  4. Byron,

Please ignore my second question, I have changed the layout using your instrutions for the Std Widget display. However the Add Photo link appears to the right of the Gallery and it doesn't look good. Is there any way I can move it above or below the gallery?

  5. Hi Surf,

I think we've answered question 3 above in another post...and question 2 you said to ignore.

    So:

    1) No, the website doesn't have to be published for Add Photo to work. There is probably a theme or plugin issue...see this post: http://smashly.net/community/topic/cant-upload-images-add-photo-link-doesnt-work

Your other question on the link appearing to the right of the gallery has to do with some CSS interactions between the theme or another plugin and PhotoSmash. If you're familiar with CSS, you should be able to add "clear: both;" to the appropriate rule and take care of the problem.

If you can post a link, I'll see if I can spot the problem.

  6. Hi Byron

Many thanks for your support. I have been unabble to get to this till now, and with your help one of the issues has been fixed: I now have that home page with a gallery that has 8 photos of the main gallery. However I now have another issue which seems to be a consequence of the previous fix.

If you check this url http://surfpuertovallarta.info/photos/ (it is the only page I have published of the site) you'll see that the main gallery is not displaying all the 17 photos, and for some reason it now also shows the Surf Puerto Vallarta Gallery viewer with a link and and image of the gallery. I would like the main gallery to show all images uploaded, I would also like have the "Add Photo" link elsewhere so that it doesn't break the symmetry of the images, and I would also like the Surf Puerto Vallarta Gallery viewer with a link and and image of the gallery disappear. How can I make this happen?

    Many thanks,

    Federico
    Also, reg

  7. Hi again Byron

As a result of refreshing the page one of the issues mentioned above is no longer an issue- the gallery viewer no longer appears. However I would still like to have the Add Photo link elsewhere. How can I change its placement?

    Many thanks,

    Federico

PS I can't believe this plugin is free...I just used the resizing tool and it is awesome. One of these days I am going to publish a post in another travel blog I have with my 5 or 10 fav plugins and photosmash will certainly be there.

  8. Hi Surf,

A blog post would be much appreciated! Thanks.

To move the Add Photo link around, you can do this through shortcodes:

    1) For the shortcode you want the gallery to be, put it where you want it like this: [photosmash id=## no_form=true]

    2) For the shortcode you want to Add Photo link to be, put it where you want it like this: [photosmash id=## form=std]

In both cases the ## is the Gallery ID. You can use a custom form if you have one...just change the 'std' to the form's name.

    Cheers,
    Byron
