  1. I've run a vBulletin site for almost 10 years.. I just offloaded that to a friend and needed to do something with my personal domains..
I got a new domain / new host and setup a WordPress page. I want to give anyone that registers the ability to upload and share pictures. I've given everyone that registers 'Author' permissions and have given upload permissions to anyone in the galleries. When you click my photos page there is no upload button. I can add the upload above or bottom of each post but theres a huge box that wrecks the look of the site. That box is there in the default theme as well as newly imported themes.
I've looked around the site here and have found some similar issues but none that are exactly the same.. I don't have root access to my server (which is driving me nuts after having it for 10 years) so my hands are somewhat tied.
Any suggestions / advice is greatly appreciated. For now I've disabled the plugin as to not confuse the few people using it right now.

    Thanks

  2. Hi Javo,

I wouldn't recommend giving Author permissions to everyone. I don't know all the reasons behind it, but I don't think it is recommended in genereal.

PhotoSmash lets you allow people to upload pictures even if they are not an Author (or even signed if you so choose). They upload through the front end of your site (not the Admin). PhotoSmash Extend gives you the ability to create new blog posts with their uploaded images.

As for adding a gallery to your Photos page, I'd recommend using the shortcode: [photosmash]

You should be able to go to Gallery Settings, select your gallery from the drop down, click Edit, then go to Uploading. Set the "Minimum role to upload photos:" to either Subscribers or Anybody, and save it. After that, the Add Photo link should show up properly.

The big blank box is the empty gallery under the Standard layout. If you switch your gallery to use a different layout, that isn't visible (only on the standard layout). And once you load an image, it is fine because it's not blank any more.

    Hope that helps,
    Byron

  3. I'm basically going to use WP as a forum.. It's not going to be used heavily (20 or 30 people max) and it's for our amusement only... I will reinstall according to your suggestions and link back shortly if it doesnt work..

  4. Hey I'm working now.. Thank you for the assistance.. I think I better understand it now..
Is there a widget available for uploading from a column on the main page?

One other thing, is there a way to allow comments on photos?

  5. Hi Javo,

Excellent! Glad you're up and running.

    1) There's not a widget in PhotoSmash that allows for this, but it's possible to do. What you would need is the ability to run shortcodes in your Widgets, which isn't out of the box for WordPress. The shortcode you'd want would be something like: [photosmash id=## form=std no_gallery=true form_visible=true] That would display just the form (remove the form_visible if you want just the Add Photos link...remove no_gallery if you want to show the gallery). Here are a couple of articles that give solutions for getting shortcodes running in Widgets:

    http://sillybean.net/wordpress/content/using-shortcodes-everywhere/

    2) For comments on photos, Elizabethanne has that working, but I haven't tried it. Basically, PhotoSmash will add your uploaded images to the WP Media Library, as well as adding them as attachments to the post their loaded to. Using the Built-in WP gallery functionality, you can allow for comments on the photos, and that's what EA is doing...here's her blurb: http://smashly.net/community/topic/add-comments-to-the-pictures

    Cheers,
