  1. I'm thinking about implementing the auto-gallery with new posts and I was wondering about a few things.

    1) is it possible to turn this off for posts i don't want it on?
    2) would there be any way to add a gallery description field (and then have that available as a shortcode in the layout editor? so that i could put photo credits and a general description on there - kind of like the facebook photo album is if you know what i mean?

    Thanks!

  2. Hi EA,

    1) Yes, you can turn it off on posts you don't want by adding [ps-skip] to the post
    2) The only field that you have available is the Gallery Name: [image_gallery_name] If you scroll down in the Layout Editor and look for the Gallery Viewer Fields in the right-hand column, you can get a little explanation for that and some other fields that would be helpful for what you're trying to do.

So, I don't really like the Auto-Add feature because it adds galleries everywhere! So, if you are building theses posts from uploaded images the the Extend functionality, you can just add the [photosmash] shortcode to the Layout that you are using for the upload. That will create a new gallery for you in the Post just as if you had written the post and added the shortcode that way.

Some ideas on the Facebook photo albums...Does the Gallery Viewer get you most of the way there? If not all the way, what is it missing?

One way to create your own Gallery Index page is to add shortcodes for each of the galleries you're wanting to display to a page and specify a specific image ID that you want to show, and you can limit the display to 1 image. It's a manual process, so it might not be what you're looking for. The Gallery Viewer automatically adds new galleries anytime one has images in them.

Let me now a little more of what you're trying to do and i'll think on it.

BTW, the iPhone App is almost done...hope you've got an iPhone or an iPod-Touch! I'm really excited about it. It's not ultra-cool like Angry Birds, but it does some nice PhotoSmash-y like things.

    Cheers,
    Byron

  3. hi byron! OK I'll try to explain exactly what I'm thinking.

i have a blog that's VERY image-heavy in the blog posts. for large posts, i'd like to add a gallery of images, so i'm not including all of the posts in my blog post, but I'm attaching them all to the wordpress post and including them in a photosmash gallery.

    so the process would be:

    1) create a new post
    2) choose whether that post has a gallery or not
    3) upload 100 or so photos to the post
    4) write the blog post, choosing which photos to include
    5) include a link to the post's gallery in the blog post text
    6) on the gallery settings, i need to be able to add a description in HTML. Something along the lines of "Images by Byron. View full wedding here."
    7) the gallery for the post should display using my default layout and have its own permalink

    Does that help clarify?

If gallery viewer is going to let me list all galleries on one page, then I think I'm good on that part. It's just the individual albums that need the description, I think?

    Thanks!

  4. Hi EA,

So, I think we're good with most of it. But I'm not coming up with a way to let you enter a Gallery Description without going modifying the plugin. Basically, adding a Gallery Description field in the Galleries table and give you a [gallery_description] code that you can use in the Wrapper of your Custom Layout.

I don't think the wrapper will convert an [author] code to a link to the author page, but that would be possible to fix as well.

Short answer, it's not possible with the current state, but shouldn't be too hard to fix up when I get the time.

    BB

  5. Added in the new version of photosmash - thanks Byron!
