Hi Steven,

Welcome!

1) Yes, you can get the large pop up via Thickbox by putting 'thickbox' in Gallery Settings, the "Image link (href) css class" setting.

2) If you're using the Std_Widget layout, that doesn't include the Captions, you could modify it to include captions, but you'd need edit the custom layout ( just add a line break and [caption] to the layout. Here are a couple of tutorials:

http://smashly.net/photosmash-galleries/how-to/create-custom-layouts/

Cheers,

Thanks for creating a great program! I've been working at it a couple of days and the forums have been a great help. I do, however, need a little direction on a couple of items. My issues may lie in the semantics.

1. Is it possible to have the large image pop up in a less than full screen browser?

2. I expected the caption to appear below the thumbnail, but it didn't. Am I missing a setting?

Here's the page I'm currently working on.

Hi EA,

I removed pagination from the extnav Search in the latest version because it didn't retain the search query on page 2.

Is that what you're seeing?

Hi V,

I hear what you're saying. The best way to do this is to add Actions and Hooks that can be triggered from within PhotoSmash.

So, as you're doing customization, see if it is possible to add your functionality as a result of triggering do_action or add_filter/apply_filters:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API#Filters
http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/do_action

I'll be glad to add actions/filters where it makes sense. So, let me know if you find appropriate places.

Hi B.,

Vusis' code is good, but you may want to add the # of images to that like:

<?php
echo do_shortcode("[photosmash gallery_type=recent images=25 layout=my_layout]");
?>

Hi Vusis,
FYI to put code in one of those nice little boxes, you can enclose in backticks: `

I'm using Wordpress, if that helps. The site isn't up (I'm still developing it) but I just wanted to get a heads-up before I put it in Wordpress - I'll try that code you've supplied.

Hi Byron,
I use your Photosmash plugin a lot (thanks!) but this time I'm not being able to figure out why it's not working:
I was first trying to get it to work with Thickbox.
The gallery images open in new window.
I tried installing Shadowbox but it also didn't work.
I noticed also that the image rotation on my homepage is not working properly anymore.
I'm thinking there's an incompatibility with Photosmash, because if I disable the PS plugin the rotation works normally.
The dev site is here: http://northstarmontessori.ca.s113547.gridserver.com/photo-gallery
Can you please suggest a fix?

Thank you!
Cintia

where on the home page? if you want to show them in the sidebar then u use a widget. There's an option I think under gallery_type where you should select recent.

if you want to embed it in your template directly then you should use a short code, like this:
'
<?php echo do_shortcode("[photosmash gallery_type=recent ]") ?>
'

I haven't tested that, but I think that's how you do it.

I've read a couple posts on people wanting to show the highest rated photos, but I was wondering what I would either need to take out of their code or add in to their code to show the most recent user uploaded photos.

So, unless I'm doing something wrong.... it doesn't appear that the extnav tags has any results are paginating correctly. It's like once it refreshes to page 2, the query results are lost. Does this make sense that it's happening like this? And since the extnav results use the regular old tag virtual gallery, I don't appear to be able to differentiate how the extnav results come up vs how regular tag results come up. Therefore, I can't paginate one and not the other.

Did that make any sense? :)

Hi there Byron
as you know, I've been hacking @ the plugin. My concern now is that I don't want to lose your contributions from new updates. At the same time, I cannot upgrade because I will be overwriting many many hours of hacking.

Perhaps what you should think of is making the plugin more customization without affecting the trunk.... Don't know how that will work but hey... please look @ buddypress for some pointers

Hi Vusis,

That's a tough one that I don't have any ideas on off the top of my head.

Here's something else that is possible with PhotoSmash, though. You can actually use GDSR (http://www.gdstarrating.com/). There is a code in PhotoSmash that lets you use the GDSR shortcodes in Custom layouts. The trouble I had with GDSR was that it didn't calculate Attachment Pages in its widgets (highest rated, etc) so, I'm not really sure it's a perfect fit, but it would be easy to integrate it with the Attachment pages if you can get around that problem.

Cheers,
Byron

Hi Hawaii,

You could create a custom layout that just showed the full size images, and then use the DownloadThemAll FireFox extension ( http://browsers.about.com/od/48/gr/downthemall.htm )

So, you custom layout for showing the large files would be something like:

<div><img src='[image_url]' /></div>

Then it sounds like that FF extension would be able to download all the images on your page. To get all the images in one gallery, you could do a shortcode for a Recent Image Gallery like:

[photosmash gallery_type=recent images=5000 layout='my_big_image_layout']

Hope that helps,

Hi Tony,

Try setting the "New Image email alert schedule:" to "alert immediately"

Next go to your the WordPress -- Settings / General Settings and make sure the Email Address there is the one you want to get the emails.
Cheers,
BYron

hi the Byron. here's another challenge.
I've setup PS to link to an attachment page: works perfectly.

but now, I want to move the "rating functionality" to the attachment. Effectively, I want users to be able to rate the attachment and consequently update the gallery rating.

This is what I've done.
I've looked at the bwbps-rating.php page and I think the functions I'm looking for are in there.

However, how do I build the argument ($o_rating) for the get_rating function?

alternatively...

I've written a SQL request to get the rating of an image (attachment). Now I just need to find a way for users to continue rating / voting on the attachment page.

thanx a million

I'm setting up photosmash as a means to not only display user submitted pictures for a club site but I'd like to also grab all those photo to make an end of the year slide show. I see where the files are saved but they are mixed in with other files and thumbnails. Is there anyway to download all of the original files?

Actually, I think I'm OK. I used some absolute positioning to move it... Although it'd be nice to show it at top and bottom, I can get by for now.

Thanks!

Hi Byron! I'd like to have the pagination div above the gallery instead of below. Any thoughts on how I could accomplish this? Thanks!

Hi Byron, thanks again for the help-

I ended up choosing the Shopp (paid) plugin instead of WP-Ecommerce, even with your plugin disabled, WP-Ecommerce was giving me some problems, you get what you pay for I guess.
